I’m a bit busy this week, so I’ll keep the commentary light. But the lopsided nature of Google News continues with the same pattern.

Notice how the vast majority of headlines about are fixated on minutiae intended to paint him and his campaign as “neutralized”, “out of control”, and how the vast majority of media outlets are covering a throw-away comment about Harris’s crowd size rather than Trump’s many statements on issues and campaign promises.. Adding insult to injury, Axios and CNN are taking their observation of mainstream media coverage and using it itself as proof that Trump is “slumping”.

The big news today was Trump and Elon Musk having an X Space that began by successfully fending off a massive DDoS attack, and by the end lasted over an hour and had over 1 million listeners.
As Musk said, it was a “conversation”. It was unfiltered, unedited, and raw—very much on purpose.
It was a technical triumph.
But cue the mainstream media, who paints it an “unmitigated disaster”, while they continue to prop up Harris.
When will Americans wake up?

For the first time in years there appears, on the surface, to be a little “balance” in terms of stories that praise Harris and those that criticize her. It’s likely this is just coincidence, but it could be that Google is reacting to the light brought upon it by KanekoaTheGreat and David Sacks (I wish I could take credit for it, but my account is still small).
Notice, though, that they achieved this “balance” by repeating three Fox News stories, rather than allowing conservative media into their little club. This really doesn’t do anything to achieve real balance, as most readers will simply see that it’s from Fox News and discount it.
And of course, the Trump searches are all still incessant attacks from far-left publications like The Hill, Vanity Fair, Business Insider, and Slate. The mainstream media continues to desperately downplay the Trump-Musk interview as much as it can; the only reporting on it less than 24 hours later that appears is a report of an obscure Democratic PAC filing a lawsuit, and a Slate piece talking about how DJT stock will tank now that Trump is on X. Absolutely zero reporting on any of the major issues of substance that Musk and Trump discussed.

In a rare case of a left-wing publication actually doing real reporting, Axios of all outlets had a single article on how Google and the Harris campaign appear to be benefitting from a Google feature that somehow only they had access too. Predictably, Google called it a “glitch”.
As always, the rest of the coverage continues to be pro-Harris and anti-Trump as Google News continues to show only left-center to hard-left sources.
Thursday August 15, 2024
Notice how CNN continues to try to revive the “Project 2025” bogeyman even after Trump disavowed them. Notice also that the lopsided bias continues as Trump is painted as someone leveling “personal attacks”, “false attacks on election integrity”, “repeated lies” and “flunking basic science”, while Harris’s coverage shows that she has “chances of winning a landslide”. The poll continue to report only when Harris rises, and not when Trump rises, painting a skewed picture and hoping to set up a series of sell-fulfilling prophesies.

In some surprising scattered showers of journalism, the Harris side actually has more than one “negative” piece, including some critical analysis on CNN and an opinion piece at the Washington Post, added to the usual “token” Fox News piece.
But of course, the Trump side is still relentless and consistent negativity. The newest thing the left-wing media is fixated on are, as usually happens, a few isolated words picked out from thousands of words Trump spoke where he supposedly denigrates the Congressional Medal of Honor (in reality, he was trying make a point—albeit awkardly—that it’s a much more joyous celebration for someone to receive a civilian award in good health than a military award where the recipient is usually injured or killed. But now we get to endure an entire news cycle where Trump supposedly hates the military. It’s getting boring, but Americans are still eating it up.

Some conservative users on X are expressing excitement to see one or two isolated stories on establishment media outlets that are critical on Harris, including a story by the Washington Post (whose owner happens to also own Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh) that speaks negatively about her proposal to put price controls on groceries.
Make no mistake: these occasional blips aren’t going to get in the way of the overall narrative that the mainstream media is painting. Note how the trend continues: instead of addressing individual policies that Trump mentions in his rallies, his interviews, or his conversation with Elon Musk, the media and Google continue to focus on minutia—typically 5-10 seconds of something Trump said deliberately taken out of context and amplified. Did Trump call a transgender athlete a man? Why did Trump call a civilian award better than a military award? Why is Trump personally attacking Harris?
